How to Host a Tiki Party

Do you feel all tropical and ready for some island fun? Summer may have passed, but that does not mean you have to abandon your ideas about Hawaii, Tahiti or the Bahamas. Perhaps you found yourself lucky enough to have traveled to an island paradise over the summer, and you want to share the memories and experiences with friends and family by throwing a tiki party. Here, you can find some tips on how to handle the hosting of such an event.

  1. First: Get the right gear

Stationery and party stores have all the paper goods you need to prepare for your party. Make sure you set the proper mood with island-themed invitations and decorations. You can find tropical table coverings, confetti, napkins and even leis for your guests to wear. If you host your party during the colder months to bring back summer for an evening, you need some sort of heating while you wear those grass skirts, sarongs and bikini tops. Look into getting some tube patio heaters or tiki torches for your outdoor area. These heat your venue and keep the theme true.

  2. Second: Party day

Make your event special with the right music and food. Don Ho and his ukulele always welcome luau guests, so check out his recordings and other island music as well. Roast that pig, and break out the poi for authentic cuisine. Let everyone try their luck with the limbo stick. If you know anything about hula dancing, share your knowledge with your guests, or enlist the aid of someone in the know.
